ISC Tom Bergan and John David Williams Memorial Awards

Funmilola Abidemi Ayeni

Funmilola was born in Nigeria and will present the abstract: ‘Evaluation of the potential of Weissella confusa and Lactobacillus paracasei isolated from Nigerian traditional dairy fermented foods and cows’ intestines’.

Devendra H. Dusane

Devendra was born in India and will present the following abstract on behalf of his co-workers: ‘A novel glycolipid biosurfactant from marine Serratia marcescens disrupts pathogenic Candida albicans BH and Pseudomonas aeruginosa PA01 biofilms’.

Wichai Santimaleeworagun

Wichai is from Thailand and will present the following abstract on behalf of his coworkers: ‘Molecular epidemiology of Clostridium difficile and prevalence of the NAP-1 strain among patients admitted to a general and a private hospital in Houston, Texas, US’.

Professor Tom Bergan served the ISC as President (1997 – 2001), Secretary-General (1989 – 1997) and Executive Member (1985 – 1989). His significant contributions included spearheading the establishment of the official ISC journal.

Professor John David Williams served the ISC as Associate Secretary (1977 – 1978), Secretary-General (1979 – 1989) and President (1989 – 1993). He was the first Editor-in-Chief of the ISC journal, International Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy.
